L’histoire d’une grande fête au cours de laquelle Jacques Tati organise une rencontre entre spectateurs, artistes, clowns, enfants et lui-même. Tout au long du film, adultes et jeunes forment une seule masse enthousiaste et unie par le spectacle. Dès le début, une petite fille et un petit garçon symbolisent, en un seul regard échangé, la joie d’être ensemble. Le public participe directement au spectacle qui tient à la fois du music-hall et du cirque, et Jacques Tati, en Monsieur Loyal, dirige et anime la représentation.

The story about a great celebration in a village during which Tati sets about organizing a competition between the audience, the performers, the clowns, the children and himself. Throughout the movie, young and old form a great enthusiastic crowd, unified by the spectacle. From the onset, a brief glance between a boy and a girl symbolizes the joy of togetherness. The members of the audience are active participants in the spectacle, which is at the same time both music hall and circus, with Jacques Tati as Monsieur Loyal, its colorful director.
